New Years Meh

Normally New Year's Eve is my favorite holiday of the year. I dunno, I haven't really gotten into the holiday spirit this year. For the first time in our 15 years together, we have no plans. And neither of us seem to have gone out of our way to make any plans. The lake is out this year for many reasons. There isn't an Exotic Erotic ball on New Year's this year either. Not that I am feeling anywhere near good enough about myself to go there anyhow. Neither of us wants to be out driving so that pretty much limits us. Our neighbor was talking about maybe having a get together at her house. If so, we'll go over there. If not, who knows. Movies and drinks at home. Maybe we'll just have some friends over here to have a game night or something. A lot of our friends didn't make plans this year. Strange because even our party animal friends are feeling sort of meh about it too.
Oh, I take it back. One year we did not go anywhere because we were both sick. So at midnight we toasted with a shot of Nyquil and went back to sleep. LOL
Truthfully? It sort of makes me worry about myself that Im not too excited this year. As if I am losing interest in the things that usually interest me. *shrug*

That last sentence you wrote? is a huge warning sign of depression. How long have you been feeling like that?

I effing hate New Years. Always have. So I'll probably just be sitting alone in my apartment getting drunk. Just like any other night of the week. Blah.

Long enough, I spose.

Hop on a plane and come sit here with us and get drunk. :)

I hear ya. Although, New Years just hasn't had the same appeal for me in a few years. I just don't want to be out on the roads with the drunks and the idiots. Am I getting old?

On a lighter note...3 posts in one day?! I'm skeert.

I'm "meh" about all the holidays this year. I do plan on getting drunk on NYE, though. I'll be sitting at home by myself, but oh well.

Wouldn't it be great, if I could hop on a plane, and pick up Arkie on the way so that we could all be drunken idiots together. *sigh*

(Not picking up momma because she doesn't want to be with drunks and idiots. Pffffft!)

I think that would be great, Jen. Maybe some day we can get drunk together.

Actually, I have no idea what I'll be doing this year. Perhaps we'll have a blog party?

Well, it's no wonder you're not too excited about NYE, Bravie. Your boss is the worst boss in the history of the world. That would put a damper on even the most positive person.

I've never been a big New Years person. I hate to be out driving because of all the drunks. When I was working as a waitress I always got stuck working NYE and had to deal with all the drunks both at work and on the road.

When I lived in Tampa I had to deal with all the idjits who bought firecrackers and set them off continiously for two solid weeks. NYE 2000 was exceptionally loud and obnoxious. Thankfully I'm back in a state where firecrackers are left to the experts and are not sold along the roadside for any moron to buy. Florida sucks. :-)

This year I do not have any plans (just like last year) except to sit with my Dad and watch some of the bowl games. In spite of losing my mom last week, I still have a lot to be thankful for, and I hope that 2007 brings us all love, peace, and lots of fun.

*squinty eyes* Do you actually work for the radio station I listen to in the morning. This was the exact topic this morning... reasons why NYE isn't the big thing it was before.

1. cost of a DUI and the stricter laws (easier to get one)
2. litigious society (getting sued for a having a party and a drunk left and killed someone)
3. no jobs, no money
4. would rather spend it with friends and family

I would say, enjoy not forcing yourself. Enjoy the peace and take the time reflect. New Year's Eve is for the masses anyway.

I'm so excited because Sunday is the one day this week I will actually get to go to bed early.

I don't think I've ever done anything big for NYE. And in my 34 years of life, I've probably gone to bed before midnight more than I've stayed up.

I don't even intend to make it o midnight. If I do then whee. Have a reallly nice dinner with

Michelle and splurge on some part of the meal, the wine or dessert or even the whole meal.

If I am up I will be on here. We should all make plans for a chat room or something.

I wrote a long, thoughtful reply (longer than Augie's even) but Blogger threw me out with some lame story about notifying an engineer and ate my post. I don't remember the lovely things I said in that lovely long post.

So. To be brief. You are old. Get over it.

(My first reply was nicer too. Blame Blogger)

If it makes you feel any better, Chris and I are feeling the same way. For us, I think a big part of it is that it hasn't really felt like winter around here.

Call some friends tonight. You won't regret a laid back game night. Have everyone bring an appetizer and BYOB. That way, there's almost no stress on you. Make a pot of chili, buy your own drinks and a few bottles of champagne for toasting. Don't put any pressure on the night and you'll have a great time with a few close friends.

Yay for you!!!!

Yes, you are old, but you're also free! Free of NYE, or as I call it, amature night. Get yourself something to drink, some good munchies, and maybe a couple of friends. Hang out and play games, watch the ball drop while making fun of Seacrest's hair.

Then, next weekend, once all the amatures are off the streets, go out and party like a rock star! Wooooooooo

Ooooh, so everyone should post: What was your favorite NYE and what was your least favorite?

FAVORITE: Three couples got dressed up and we went to a fancy party at a hotel. There was a great band. It was kind of like a grown up prom. We drank far too much champagne and went out for breakfast afterwards. Twas fun.

LEAST FAVORITE: Went to BILs house (the trailer) about five years ago. Four people played cards (it was all that could fit at the table), no food was available til around 9 pm (We had been there since 6...no dinner...he told us not to bring anything), and we sat with three other people crammed into a living room with a tiny tv with poor reception. I think we were in bed by 11.

We always have a party on the Eastern Shore at our friend's house. I'm usually off today cause we're driving down there. This year she's giving birth in 11 days or so. So no party.
We're either going out to another friend's or staying in with just each other. I'm hoping for the alone time. With nudity.

We're having a game night with just one friend, who's separated from her husband, coming over to enjoy some dinner with us. It will be fun because we don't always have time for this.

New Year's Eve is sometimes too much of a build up. I remember when I was younger going to a big deal party at a fancy place, only to be underwhelmed by the food.

Whatever you do, I wish you a Happy New Year.

I've never been a big fan of NYE. Last year was moderately entertaining, as E and I both had our kids and we let them all stay up. Punchdrunk munchkins! This year, she's in Chicago for a wedding, though, so the boys and I will probably just have a game night at home.

We plan on having Chinese food and brownie/ice cream cake and watching movies. I may drink something alcoholic and we will toast each other with ginger ale at midnight.

That's excitment, I tell you.

We haven't cared about NYE in years. Not since DD was born.

Former NYE's for me and DH at SIL's house, when I was young, thin and pretty:

- We smoke
- We drink, but not excessively
- We watch SIL, her DH, her DH's brothers and BIL's get hugely drunk
- We watch other SIL's DH get hugely drunk
- SIL's DH plays "Sweet Child of Mine" over and over and over
- SIL gets sick of "Sweet Child of Mine" and starts to play "Mull of Kintire" or "The Green Green Grass of Home"
- SIL "dances"
- SIL pulls me into her lap and sings to me
- I fend off SIL's DH's brothers, who are drunk enough not to remember how old they are or how big their beer guts have become
- I hide behind DBF at midnight to avoid kisses from other SIL's DH
- I get slobbered on anyway

Can't say I miss it.
