OH HELL NO!!!!!

Safeway is out of their mind. For those who don't have a Safeway, they are a supermarket chain here in California.
So they tell us that if we cash our Stimulus payment with them, we will get 10% off our next purchase. So let's say that I spend $100 next time. I end up saving $10. Meh, not spectacular but yes, better than nothing.
But let's think about this. I cash my check there and I save $10 next time. But considering that my social security number is on the check, am I willing to take all the risks involved? The cashier now has access to my SSN. The person who verifies the money at the end of shifts now has access to my SSN. The store manager now has access to my SSN. And everyone between Safeway and until my check reaches a bank deposit now has access to my SSN. Being the skeptic that I am, I will assume that they steal my SSN and commit identity theft against me. How much is it going to cost me in time, money and frustration to restore everything back to normal? Is it worth the $10 I would save on my next purchase? I believe not. My check will be cashed at my bank and only at my bank.

PS---I would like everybody to send me one recipe. A simple recipe. I don't care what it is but I want you each to send me some sort of recipe. Thank you.

*snort* Nice addition of the sweet request for the recipes at the end. I never thought about the ssn thing. I didn't even know they were on the checks!!! That seems wrong.

Swami should send you her chicken and avocado soup recipe. I just got it today. Yum!

I will send you a simple asparagus recipe.

Most places don't require you to bring in the actual check to cash. They just want you to spend the money with them, buy a $100 gift card and they give you another $10 one is how it's working around here.

Three markets out here on the West Coast require you to bring in the actual stimulus check. I never thought of the SSN thing, though. Very interesting.

I know a recipe for disaster.

stimulus check?
I don't think we're schedualed to get ours til sometime in July, I thinking the Govt will probably run out of money and call off the whole thing before it sends ours.

We still haven't filed our 2007 return, so no check here. Besides - we will have to give most of it back with the 2008 return. It's more of an advance than free government money for all. Really, I don't get the big fuss.

I would not give Safeway any check that had my SSN on it.

*steals Arkie's recipe* *laughs*

Like Buggy, we won't get our check until July. I'll have to try her apple/peanut butter/ Kashi Go Lean recipe.

Here's another recipe: get a banana; peel it; eat it.

I got my stimulus check on Tuesday (how happy was I when I found out the payment schedule and my SSN ends in xx13?)

We have Safeways on the east coast, too. My favorite grocery stores are Publix. They are based in Florida and are mostly in the south. Love them!

I'll have to think about the recipe request. ARe you going to put together a mini-cookbook and offer it to your friends? *hopeful look*

Okay - I love Arkie's recipe.. but I'll send a real one! Here's what we had for breakfast this morning! Pretty yummy! And I'll say good to your mom for the Weight Watchers.. I think I'm starting next week! My work has a program starting then, and if you lose 5 lbs or more during the session, they'll refund half of the $120 to you.. deal I can't refuse!

Lemon Lovers' Ricotta Pancakes
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup part-skim ricotta cheese
1 large egg
2 large egg whites
1/2 cup lemon juice
2 teaspoons grated lemon zest
1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon canola oil, divided use

Heat the oven to 200 degrees.

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.

In a medium bowl, whisk together ricotta, egg, egg whites, lemon juice, lemon zest and 1 tablespoon oil. Using a rubber spatula or wooden spoon, fold this mixture into the dry ingredients to make a thick batter.

Brush a non-stick skillet with 1/2 teaspoon oil, then heat over medium-low. With a 1/4-cup measure, drop the batter onto the skillet, spreading it slightly. Multiple pancakes can be cooked at once.

Cook pancakes until browned and beginning to set, about 2 minutes. Flip and cook until browned on the second side and cooked at the center, about 2 minutes longer.

Transfer the cooked pancakes to a baking sheet and place in the oven to keep warm. Brush the skillet with the remaining oil and repeat with remaining batter.

Makes 5 servings.

Why are you getting a check as opposed to direct deposit? Ours was late, but it arrived. We had already spent $1000 of it on the washer, but it was nice to have the rest.

I will send a recipe from the home computer where all the recipes are.
