What do you collect?

I'm interested in knowing what ya'll collect. Between me and Michelle we collect way too much shit. I keep saying that we should sell all of our stuff and buy a huge house. She says that we would have a huge house and nothing in it so there's no point.
What is in my house that I collect:
Shot glasses
mini alcohol bottles
CDs
DVDs
Movie/TV/Musis stuff: records, autographs, posters, magazines, pictures, toys, misc stuff
49er anything
Kitchen stuff: I have to have all the gadgets even if they aren't needed
luggage/backpacks/bags
shoes ( I have enough pairs that it qualifies as a collection)

So what's on your list?

Candles
Lip gloss

Gosh, I guess I'm quite boring, cuz that's it. I have a bit of an aversion to collections, since my mom collects everything, and I've seen what it can do to your house.

I collect fans, the hand-held kind. I wish I could say I've been to all the places the fans came from, but people bring them back for me when they go places. The best is a beautiful hand-painted one from Barcelona and the first was scented balsa wood from Hong Kong.

We also keep old money (Hi, Sonya!). I have a couple 1- and 2-dollar bills and an old 5 as well as complete sets of the special coins like the ones for each province and the 1967 set.

I would like to rent something from vols porn collection.

Apparently garbage.

Not really a collector these days. I used to get into the sports stuff, but not so much anymore. I do still have my Chipper Jones rookie card and a couple of Greg Maddux cards (not rookie cards). When I was little, I had a stamp collection and some coins. And I used to collect McDonald's Happy Meal toys.

But now, nothing. I'm into throwing stuff out.

I'm like your hubby, Zombs. I have every concert ticket stub I have ever been to. I have all of the tickets stubs from every 49er game I have been to. I save all kinds of sentimental things that are just silly to continue saving.
In my hope chest I still have letters exchanged between me and friends in high school.

I collect:

--Asian art, mostly religious statuary.

--Books. So many books. I have about 150 linear ft of bookshelves and about 10 big boxes of "overflow" books in the basement.

--Teacups, although I rarely add to this collection.

--Breyer horses, my childhood collection

--Turtles. This is what I sometimes buy for a souvenier when I travel. They must be made of a natural element other than china or the dreaded and the dreaded "resin". I have turtles carved from various woods & stones, from coal, from shells, etc. I also have a box of mostly resin turtles that well-meaning people have given me, because it is not polite to throw away a gift or something.

--Medallions. This is my favorite kind of jewelry. My current favorite is a 2" blackened silver medallion of Celtic Trout.

--I am the custodian of my son's original Ninja Turtle collection, and my daughter's original My Little Pony collections.

--I have 3 bankers boxes full of McDonald's Happy Meal toys. For some reason I never threw them out. My grandson thinks I am a Goddess because when he visits I can pull out whole boxes full of cool toys that no one else has.

--My Michael Jackson Memorial Glove Collection. I have one each of so many different gloves.

--Take-out menus from places where I have never ordered takeout.

--Dust Bunnies

Turtles?!?!?!?!?
Really? I collected turtles up until the time that I moved in with Michelle. I even have a petrified turtle. Very delicate and I was always afraid to break it. I have all of my turtles in boxes. I have everything from the real petrified one to glass to resin to stone and wood to paper. My parents used to buy me a turtle souvenir everywehre they went when they travelled.

Frank Lloyd Wright Stuff/Prairie style pieces of art/decor (effing expensive collecting hobby)

Really, that's about all that I really seem to have more than a few of. I have lots of kitchen gadgets, but I use most of them often, so it's a functionality thing.

I hate antique stores/malls. I think that means I have no soul.

Anything Caps related. I have some really random things. And lots of hockey stuff. They used to have these sticker books where you fill in the stickers for the players and the jerseys of each team. It's fun to go back and look at the ones from the 80s.

Carey, I guess I've never mentioned my shot glass collecting because it's only recent that we decided that we are collecting them LOL. We try to pick up one from each place we've visited but only started doing that a couple of years ago. We have maybe 10 glasses.

I also save ticket stubs from concerts or broadway type shows and even touristy things. It's fun to go down memory lane when looking at the old ones.

Planet Hollywood Shot glass from the ones I visited (they've all gone out of business).

SW decor

Candles and candle holders

I had a huge collection of Longenbarger baskets but they burned in the fire.

Shoes

Beanie babies also burned.

Magazine covers (well with the magazine still attached) with my favorite people: Clinton, Barbra, Beatles

I bought the Candadian .25 coins in a set when I was in Canada and am trying to get a complete set of US quarters with D mint - collecting as the fall into my hands.

Christmas ornaments - santa only. Also when I travel I try to get one from everywhere in a gold theme for my travel tree.

I used to have 100s of books but gave them away except for my favorite writers.

I used to have something from all my relatives that have passed but lost some in the fire (grandpa's cowboy hat). My Dbf's step daughter stole my turquoise rings that were my mom's just a couple of weeks ago. I'm visiting pawn shops. I have two of my grandma's cup and saucer collection, ceramics my mom made (a huge Santa that is awsome). A small little china thingy on my dresser that my best friend got me in HS. A lip shaped glass thingy that my brother bought me when he was living in SF before he passed. A love note from my dad to my mom during WWII. Other stuff like this.

Hi everybody!

I collect books, jewelry (mostly rings), and dust.

Like Swami, I don't throw away the happy meal toys, either, as we sometimes have little guests. Now that the niece and nephew are expecting, I am looking forward to some babysitting duty.

My mother tried to get me to collect those tiny crystal knick knacks, but I only have a few that she bought me.

I have started collecting mermaids, after I recieved a mermaid suncatcher as a gift. I bought myself a mermaid figurine and my DD made me a clay mermaid and little fish to sit by it.

Glowie, I didn't know you collect elephants. DH loves elephants. We have an elephant table in our entry hallway and a few other elephant things.

Question: Where did Jared go to school?

2/03/2006 5:59 AM
Blogger Glowie said...

Hi Nook. Yes, I have a few little elephants here and there. Trunks up only.

Jared left high school (Newport North) in tenth grade and went to two different prep schools. He then went to the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA because he wanted to be a painter but later transferred to the School of Visual Arts in New York. Because he is visual art after all.
