What's new?

I may possibly have a lead on a possible job opening. Maybe. Even if not, it's nice to know that I am putting serious effort into looking. It was always just words in the past. I have now set things in motion so that my name is out in the industry and people know I am looking. and willing to leave my current company. *gasp* Scary stuff. But a must.
I got notice from my doctor telling me that I am prediabetic. I need to lower my sugar levels and my cholesterol. Those are old people problems. I'm now officially old. Fuck.

Well I guess that's a big yay and a big eek in one short paragraph!

I'm so glad you have put word out you are looking. I really think somebody will hear and want to nab you.

I'm very sad to hear the prediabetic news. I'm terrified every year when I get bloodwork done, but have been normal thus far. Does diabetes run in your family? *hugs* The good news is that you have some excellent sources of info here from your friends with diabetes.

Oh, I thought of you yesterday while watching the documentary show 30 Days. It was an episode where an uber straight, "being gay is a sin" guy goes to live in the Castro with a gay man for 30 days. He saw a shirt that said "I'm so gay I poop rainbows." I thought of you. :-)

Kim, yes, my Mom is a diabetic. She was diagnosed about 5 or 6 years ago. She does nothing but take a pill for it. Which relaly pisses me off. I prefer to take care of it with diet and excrcise. Which is what I am doing now.
*snort* I saw that episode but have to admit that I did not see that t-shirt. I love it!!!
30 days is a great show. For some reason we haven't watched it in a looooong time. I would like to get back to watching it again.
I have to admit to changing my view on people from India after I watched that show. I did have some predjudices against them in the past but after watching 30 days I had an entirely different view.
It was sort of like the revelation I had after coming back from Mexico the first time. It's powerful when you see how the other half lives. Powerful indeed.

I wish that show was back on. Morgan Spurlock, where are you??? We've rented the first season from Netflix. I only had seen about half the episodes on tv.

I, too, really enjoyed the India episode. Such an eye opener to see how much the job meant to that Indian man. Still doesn't mean I want American jobs going overseas, but it definitely gave me a softer view.

Glad you are looking to manage the diabetes via diet and exercise. My FIL is a real testament to that. He, due to family history mostly, had sky high cholesterol and blood sugar levels. Through diet and exercise, he is completely off his meds. I'm proud of him, he worked very hard.

Funny story: I was supposed to get the standard fasting blood tests last year after my annual exam. I got the lab order sheet from my doc and said "I can just get this done at work...the lab is literally a hallway away from my office!" Well, I never got it done. My annual exam was on Friday at 10:00 a.m. I dusted off the year-old lab order on my desk and marched over to get it done at 8:00 a.m. that morning. And I was so busted by my doc. :-) Luckily my results were to her via computer by 10:00 and all was normal.

*hugs* for both the potentially good and potentially bad news.

I've known peeps that are prediabetic, and never go over that little edge. You need to be diligent though.

Yay for looking for a new job and getting leads! I know you'll get something, but I can imagine how frightening the thought of leaving is, too.

I guess PREdiabetic is the best place to find out about it so you can prevent it. {{hugs}}

p.s. you were officially old way before this, so stop being so hard on yourself. :P

Your dieting, exercising, and weight watcher meals will help with the new health issues. And a new job will whisk away all these problems.

Can I just say I *heart* mm? *grin*

Yay for the job stuff!

It's good that they've caught this now (the pre-DM) because with the right diet, etc, you can hopefully prevent it from going to full-blown diabetes.

*smooch*

YAY! for possible new job news. That's awesome, and way overdue.

Sorry to hear about pre-diabetic symptoms though. That super sucks. However, you have the right attitude with diet and excersize. I'm assuming it's Type2...and really, it's fairly easy to control if you can keep it in the PRE stages.
Fair warning though...alcohol can and will truly jack up your blood sugar levels.
And walking is some of the best excersize for diabetics.
Eat lots of Cheerios, too. Good for the cholesterol and the diabetes, which, by the way, tend to go hand in hand.

*smooch*

I've got tons more info if you want or need it.

Why yes, Arkie, you MAY say that. *grin*

YAY for possible job!

Everyone is right about it being good to catch the pre-diabetic condition now while you can do something about it.

I have a coworker who was diagnosed wit diabetes a couple of years ago. He manages it through diet and exercise and he lost a bunch of weight and says that he's never felt better. He said that once you get into the mindset of what you can/can't eat it's not too hard to do.

Yay for putting your name out there! The best jobs come from word of mouth, imo.

Bummer on the prediabetic thing. My older sister is stuck just over the edge of pre- and into actual diabetic. Which sucks for her. I always test out fine, even though I am old and fat and like dark chocolate truffles a bit too much. Sister is the only person in my family to ever have diabetes. She is also the only one who ever drank something alcoholic pretty much every day for decades. Grain alcohol is a killer.

I never heard of 30 Days. What channel was it on?

You're not old. You're a baby.

I'm not sure what channel 30 Days is on. Probably Discovery or TLC or something.
The premise is that it takes someone and puts them in a living condition for 30 days. And they put them in a place that is uncomfortable.
A homophobe in a gay man's house.
A bigot into India.
A man against illegals into a home with illegals.
You get the idea. It is a fascinating show.

My Mom is a diabetic but I understand that. She's very overweight. For me, I'm not that overweight and am only 41. I was a bit surprised by this news. My Mom wasn't diagnosed until she was in her 60's. My blood pressure is fine though, for whatever that's worth.
