Prop 8
When this hideous proposition passes I will blame nobody but the Anti-Prop 8 people.
For those who don't know, Prop 8 is the proposition on the California ballot that will take away gay people's right to marry and will change the State Constitution to state that marriage can only be between a man and a woman.
The ads that they are airing in favor are full of hate and absolute lies. ABSOLUTE FUCKING LIES. They will NOT start teaching 2nd graders that boys can marry boys and girls can marry girls. They don't teach these things to 2nd graders. No churches will lose any tax benefits. Nothing changes. Check out the state of MA. That state has not fallen off the earth and burned in hell. They are not teaching a bunch of 2nd graders a bunch of stuff about gay sex. It's sickening that they are getting away with these smear tactics. And they are being funded and backed mostly by the Mormons. Sorry to say this about an entire group of people but I do not like the Mormons. Nothing about the LDS is good. A bunch of fuckers who at one point believed in and allowed multiple wives, some of whom were underage are now backing a Proposition to keep marriage traditional. I'm mad. Fuck you Mormons. Fuck you all. Do NOT come knocking on my door if you know what is good for your ears.
But worse yet are those on my side. They haven't raised enough money to run as many ads. and the one ad that they do run is so soft I could wipe my ass with it. Get tough please. It's sickening that you are letting those hate filled, bigoted hypocrits win this therefore taking away my right to marry. Because as of today, it is legal for gays to marry in California. I am pretty certain that come November, our rights are going to be taken away and we will be back at square one again.

Luckily, no. That is why gay people from all over the country are coming here in groves between now and November. Once married, it can't be taken away.
My fear about rushing out is that some loophole will be found and then my marriage rights would be stripped. But in order to be married, I can no longer be a Domestic Partner. Since that is not in jeopardy, I do not want to mess anything up there.
Stupid fuckers.
I had not thought of what you said about losing your Domestic Partner status when you married, but now I too am worried about people who might have given up DP status for marriage and could lose a lot if the anti gay marriage fuckers figure out a way to negate past legal marriages.
Why are some people so earnestly creative at fucking up other people's lives? I just don't get Big Intolerance

There is a website that you can make or use ads already created, and doesn't hardly cost anything at all. I got an Obama email from the campaign here that several weeks ago said, hey if you want to donate go here instead of get one of your choice out. I'll look for the address, maybe there will be something you and some friends can go together on this.
I get plenty angry over this issue, so I can only imagine how angry you are. It's one of the few times where I'll start spewing hate right back. I can't stand hearing homophobes lashing out.
I hate spewing the hate, too. It does not make me feel good to say those things about Mormons. My Dad's side of the family is littered with Mormons. All of whom live in Salt Lake City. So it's not a good feeling. But since they are behind this bigotry, and because of the stuff that has been showing up in the news about the LDS as of late, I really am having a lot of issues with them and in return am bigoted towards them. So yeah, I'm feeling a little hypocritical myself. But it isn't based on ignorance. It's based on the knowledge that they have waged this war against me and all gay people.

I'm with you all the way. Civil rights is my number one concern with the upcoming election. It's a scary, slippery slope once civil rights start being taken away.

I have such a hard time with this issue, because I truly do not understand why it is an issue at all. I don't understand why people who are good, moral, hard working, tax paying, and contributing members of society are denied such a basic right. I find it so absurd that I often can't even formulate a coherent thought. There's nothing that adds up for me. Usually with issues I can at least understand both sides, even if I don't agree with one or the other. But this? I can't understand why there even IS an other side. I've heard the reasons and arguments. I just do not recognize them.
I realized as I hit post that I may have been unclear.
I don't understand why the right to marry is being put to a vote. It shouldn't be an opinion. It should be a basic right. It's not okay to vote for discrimination. It's not okay to legislate hate.
Our referendums are never interesting. Our only referendum this year is whether we should have a convention to talk about maybe reviewing the Illinois constitution, since it hasn't been updated in 40 years.
Now I'm rambling.

Ellen has put out a public service announcement video against the proposition. I had out-of-state company last week and they couldn't believe that this was up for vote.
2 steps forward, one step back, but eventually it won't be an issue, we as a society are breeding the bigots out. They may never completely go away, but their voice will get smaller and smaller until it's insignificant.
Gay marriage, with all the rights and privlidges will be law in our lifetime, my grandchildren will wonder what all the fuss was about.
Whether this ridiculous prop passes or not, they will lose.

I really hate that you and others have to fight so freaking hard just to have some simple rights that others take for granted. and then when it seems that the country or at least your state is getting smarter people with fears greater than their minds get in an uproar. I hope CAians defeat it.

Like Kim said, I get plenty angry about this too and can only imagine how infuriating it is for you. You would think that in this day and age that this wouldn't even be an issue. That it wouldn't be about accepting or not accepting... it would just be. I'm sorry.
