Sigh of relief
Well, then the Hurricane took a turn to the east and hit MS. She lives right above LA and she is not on the gulf coast, thank you God but they were hit. She lives about 100 miles southwest of Hattiesburg which was apparently hit badly.
I've been trying to get in touch with Kimmy ever since it hit and of course I haven't been able to get through. At first I wasn't too worried but as time has gone by and still no word from her I have started to worry. Even our "old gang" has been getting in touch wanting to know if I have heard from her. Colleen even tried calling Fed Ex in Hattiesburg (Kimmy works for Fed Ex, we weren't expecting her to be delivered in a package or anything) and they couldn't give any information.
So DUH!!!!! why haven't I called Kimmy's mom, who lives 15 miles from me? Why? Because I am blonde. *slaps forehead*
So I talked to Michele (Kimmy's mom) tonight and for the most part they are all okay. Kimmy lives there with her son (Josh) and her partner (Suzie) and a couple of dogs. I don't know their names. But if i know Kimmy, and I do, they have some ridiculous names. She had a dog when we were in high school and the dogs name was Fluffy. Fluffy? I would say. This dog has no fucking hair, it's allergic to fleas and has scabby black skin. It's the ugliest fucking dog I have ever seen in my life and in fact I hesitate to call it a dog. And she named it Fluffy. *snort* If I could get Mikki D to come back and post, she would verify this story.
Oh hell, I got off topic, Kimmy doing okay.
They lost their roof and FEMA came out today and put a tarp over the top. Their walls are saturated with water, they have no power, no gas and no water. No water except for what was in the pool. None of the neighbors have any working facilities (if ya know what I mean) and Kimmy has the only working toilet on the block. They have to fill the tank with the pool water in order to flush but at least the block has a toilet. Kimmy's. Hah, I don't know why I find this funny.
The town is pretty much closed down and the roads are almost un usable. BUT, Kimmy is going to be able to drive out to the city tomorrow to get some groceries and stuff. That's all I know for now and her Mom is going to keep me updated.
But I know this. Kimmy and I used to rival each other for who had the better survival kit. (I still think mine is better) so I know that she was as prepared as one can be for this. And if i know Kimmy, she is probably taking care of half the town and will probably proclaim herself mayor by mid next week.
I will sleep better tonight.
